easy answer is to provide a service to you follow man.
You, friends, neighbors, community, and many just passing
through Westmoreland County that depend on the Rescue Squad
24/7. Every day someone is need of rescue squad
services. Daily we can read or hear about tragedy
around us, well, as a rescue squad member you are in a
position to do something about making a potential tragedy
into a positive life experience for others and yourself.
The rescue squad depends on its members to deliver these
priority services.
Regular members are 18 and older, Junior members can start at 16. Junior members must have written approval of parent or guardian.
Our membership is all volunteer. Volunteers work without pay for your benefit and they are Someone Special. Our volunteers come from the community and they could be your next door neighbor, friends, local business man, farmer, farmhand, or just about anyone. Several of our members work full or part time as paid Professional Emergency workers in both the fire and rescue organizations.
If you have no experience, WCVRS will provide the required training after a period of indoctrination. Emergency medical technicians training is available at all levels, however, this training is expensive and does require a period of professional training. Volunteers receiving this training will be required be part of the active run schedule for the squad for a period of time. Persons, male or female, may discuss training opportunities with the Squad Captain.
For those looking for a position in the field of Emergency Services, the Rescue Squad is a great starting place. The experience gained and certifications can move you into a paid position or your dream job. Experience is a critical factor in finding a highly paid position.
If you or someone you know are interested in becoming a member of the rescue squad you may make an application and send it to us. There are two ways to apply directly online or download a form and bring it in or mail it to the squad. There are several types of jobs available and they are as follows:
Emergency Medical Technician - EMT. EMTs are certified in emergency medical pre-hospital care. The certifications can be basic, enhanced, intermediate, or paramedic. The Paramedic certification is the highest and allows the EMT to carry out the most advanced life saving and pre-hospital care available.
First Responder - First responders assist EMTs and drivers in the ambulance. They are required to pass a first aid and CPR class before assisting with patients. Many first responders go on to get their certifications to become and EMT and in charge of an ambulance crew. First responders must be squad members.
Driver - Drivers are certified to operate emergency response vehicles. Drivers must be certified through the Emergency Vehicle Operators Training (EVOC) course and test. Drivers also assist the EMT personnel to ready patients for transport to the hospital via ambulance. Often a driver may have EMT , First Responder, Firefighter, or other emergency service certification and experience.
Administrator - Administrators work behind the scene to keep the organization operating. Administrators perform a variety of roles as Corporate Officers and administrative duties such as record keeping, accounting, and other house keeping functions. Housekeeping, property and vehicle maintenance also come under the preview of the administrators. An important and vital part of our organization.
Auxiliary - The Auxiliary has a long and proud tradition of raising funds purchase much needed equipment for the squad. The Auxiliary also planning community outreach and support squad events with a gentle and beautiful hand.
